ANOTHER yellow level weather alert is in effect for Trinidad and, to a lesser extent Tobago.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Services (TTMS) issued the alert on Monday evening as it comes into effect on Tuesday at 2 am.
The alert is expected to end on Wednesday at 4 pm.
According to the TTMS, “There is a medium chance (60%) of isolated heavy showers and thunderstorm activity associated with atmospheric instability expected from early morning. The most impactful weather is expected mainly over southern and eastern offshore areas tomorrow morning slowly extending across Trinidad and Tobago.
“Gusty winds with varying intensities are expected in the vicinity of heavy downpours. Impacts include temporary traffic disruptions, street flooding and localised ponding, displacement of objects by gusts and difficulty anchoring marine craft. These conditions and impacts are expected in intervals over the period.”
The Met Office is advising persons to secure loose outdoor objects, exercise caution in flood-prone areas, take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts and monitor official weather updates at www.metoffice.gov.tt.
Meteorologist Gary Benjamin provided more detail updates in a video statement.
He said, “The axis of a wave which had slowed down is now expected to reach the Eastern Caribbean by early tomorrow morning, Tuesday June 10th. The atmosphere over Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands, is expected to become increasingly unstable.”
Benjamin said over the next few days, there will be cloudy to partly cloudy periods producing light or moderate rain showers.
Coastal and offshore areas will face more heavy thunderstorms, he added.
