‘Within the last three days, my employer made me one of the most popular persons in Trinidad and Tobago and I was wondering where I was getting money for free advertisement’ – UNC candidate Lyndon De Gannes

UNITED National Congress (UNC) candidate for Malabar North Lyndon De Gannes is declaring he will slay any Goliath standing in his way.
De Gannes vowed to do his part in the fight to win back the Arima Borough Corporation for the UNC on Monday night in Couva.
He was allowed on stage to speak by UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the UNC presentation of candidates for the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo
De Gannes, a Central Bank employee, after filing his nomination received a letter from his employer reminding him of its code of conduct and common terms of conditions of employment which prevents employees from running for political office.
He filed the matter in court and was granted an injunction last Friday, which prevents the bank from firing him while he contests the local government election on August 14.
De Gannes quipped, “Within the last three days, my employer made me one of the most popular persons in Trinidad and Tobago and I was wondering where I was getting money for free advertisement.”
He said he was advised by a former Central bank governor to not give up and to continue the good fight.
De Gannes told the famous biblical account of David, a shepherd, and his fight with the giant Goliath whom he killed with just a sling shot.
“I see all my burgesses as sheep. I see all of Trinidad and Tobago as sheep and I stand in defence against the Goliaths who is trying to take your joy, to take your family future, to take your children future, to take your education, to take your livelihood, and I am prepared to slay all goliaths that come against me to deny me of my right to serve my burgesses,” he said in a loud voice to much cheering and applause.
De Gannes said all the talk heard on the streets about improvement he will convert to real action to ensure that the people get the representation they deserve.
Also speaking on Monday night were UNC MPs Dr Rishad Seecheran, Ravi Ratiram and Rudranath Indarsingh.
