OFFICERS from the North Central Division’s Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) arrested two suspects and seized a firearm with a magazine and ten rounds of ammunition in Trincity on Sunday.
The incident began around 2.30 pm when the victim parked his red Honda CRV on Casselton Avenue to buy a snow cone. He was approached by two men, one armed with a gun, who announced a robbery and stole the vehicle, fleeing westward and then north on Dinsley Avenue.
The victim promptly reported the crime to the police. By 3.50 pm, the stolen vehicle was spotted on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near Valpark. A high-speed chase ensued, ending when the vehicle collided with a gate on Chanka Trace after turning off the highway unto El Socorro Extension.
A video showing the men being arrested was shared on social media on Sunday.
With assistance from the North Eastern Division, including the Inter-Agency Task Force, Guard and Emergency Branch, and Highway Patrol, the suspects were apprehended.
Officers recovered a 9mm Luger pistol, a magazine, and ammunition.
Both suspects and the firearm were taken to the Arouca Police Station, along with the recovered vehicle.
