WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Go Down

THREE of the world’s biggest apps WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have all gone down in a major outage.

These apps are run by Facebook on shared infrastructure and globally users complained of disconnection from those social apps.

Visitors to the Facebook website are seeing an error page or a message that their browser cannot connect. The WhatsApp and Instagram apps  are working but no new content or messages can be viewed.

Many persons took to other social media app Twitter to voice their grievances.

In India, users posted messages on Twitter said the popular social networking and communication platforms were inaccessible from around 9 pm Indian time.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the apps became inaccessible from around 11.45am.

The website downdetector.com, which tracks web services, also reported a sharp spike in complaints by users showing more than 20,000 incidents of persons unable to use  the apps.

Reuters reported that  WhatsApp was also down for over 14,000 users, while messenger was down for nearly 3,000 users according to data from the website.

“Downdetector only tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outage might be affecting a larger number of users,” Reuters stated.
