THE Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is attempting to complete all outstanding works in the Beetham area by the deadline date of January 31.
In a press release following a massive protest early Monday morning by residents, WASA admitted that works were paused on a collapsed segment of a 47-inch diameter concrete sewer pipeline along Main Street.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Work began on October 15, 2021 and the installation of approximately 626 feet of 44-inch diameter Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline at depths ranging from 19 feet to 26 feet was already completely, WASA stated.
WASA stated, “It should be noted that what appears to be a pause in works at the site occurred as the Authority awaited delivery of specially made concrete cylinders for use in the installation of three manholes. These cylinders have been received and transportation to the job site begins today -Monday 10th January, 2022.
“This will allow for commencement of the final phases of the works later this week, which involves installation of the manholes, interconnection of the new pipeline to the existing, road restoration and remedial works and decommissioning of the existing concrete sewer pipeline.”
WASA added that as part of its community outreach, the Authority met with residents on two occasions along with Public Minister Marvin Gonzales and Member of Parliament for Laventille Fitzgerald Hinds.
WASA also stated that it has installed various pumps within the area to minimise sewage spills
