A MAJOR transmission 36-inch main belonging to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) broke and fell into the waters at the Godineau River in La Romain.

The rupture took place at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday causing thousands in south Trinidad to be without pipe-borne water as discoloured water gushed into the river near the vicinity of the Shore of Peace cremation site.

WASA in a press release on Tuesday stated, “Early investigations revealed the rack used to support the Authority’s 36” pipeline at South Oropouche, in the vicinity of the Creek, collapsed into the river causing the rupture.”

WASA said that a team was immediately dispatched to the area to isolate supply, analyze the situation and commence repairs in the shortest possible time.

The Ministry of Works and Transport has been contacted for assistance.

“The Authority is in the process of mobilizing all our resources, both internal and external, in order to effect repairs,” WASA stated.
