DR Winsford “Joker” Devine was described as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s greatest songwriters by one of the many persons he wrote songs for, Machel Montano.
Montano did a brief video paying tribute to the cultural icon who passed away on Tuesday. The video was shared with AZPNews.com.
In the video, the Soca star offered condolences to Devine’s family members and paid tribute in the song that kickstarted Montano’s singing career when he was just a child, “Too Young to Soca.” It was was written by Devine.
With rain falling in the background, Montano said, “While the doves cry, today I want to pay tribute to one of our cultural icons who have passed on, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s greatest songwriters Mr Winsford ‘Joker’ Devine. I want to send out my condolences to his family and all his comrades and all those of us who worked with him.”
Many other prominent persons in the entertainment industry also paid tribute to the national awardee songwriter and social media was flooded with condolences.
