A VENDOR who allegedly assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest was granted $20,000 bail, police reported on Friday.
Police stated that the 30-year-old man of Erica Street, Laventille, on Thursday, refused to comply with instructions when approached by officers.
It is being alleged that while attempting to arrest the man, he pulled away and a struggle ensued, where he dealt a blow to an officer. He was later subdued and taken to the City Police station. He appeared before Justice of the Peace Stephen Young and was granted bail with a surety. He is expected to appear virtually before the Port-of-Spain Magistrate Court on June 22.
And 14 vendors were charged during an illegal vending exercise in Port-of-Spain on Thursday.
Police reported that around 10am, under the supervision of acting Sgt Deoraj and Cpl Maharaj, members of the Port of Spain City Police Street Enforcement Unit, proceeded to Charlotte Street and Independence Square.
Officers approached vendors and enquired about their permission from the Port-of-Spain Corporation to vend on the streets who were unable to provide any proof for legitimacy. They were subsequently arrested. The vendors were charged for various illegal vending offences. They were granted station bail in the sum of $1,500 and are expected to appear virtually before the Port-of-Spain Magistrate Court also on June 22.
