Vendor, 70, of Beetham in Court for Murder

An elderly man is expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Tuesday, charged with the August 2, 2024 murder of Jabari Azikiwe Phillip.

A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Tuesday stated that Willifred James Roach, 70, of Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain, was charged with the offence by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One, on Monday following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul on that same date.

Phillip, 31, a taxi driver, of St James, was parked at the intersection of Henry Street and Independence Square North, on August 2, 2024, when he got into an altercation with a vendor. During the incident, the victim was allegedly stabbed in the chest by the man who ran off.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment where he died.
One male suspect was arrested in connection with the incident on August 7, 2024 by HBI Region One officers.

The investigation was supervised by acting ASP Ramjag and acting Insp Ramsumair, both of HBI Region One, with the assistance of various agencies. Roach was charged with the offence by PC Ramsawak, also of HBI Region One.
