Vaccines Average 3,000 Per Day in T&T

A rough average of 3,000 persons per day are on their way to be fully vaccinated.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said, “As of September 27, to October 15, an average of roughly 3,000 persons per day were on their way to be fully vaccinated. Hence, we administered a total of 41,929 first shots of a two-dose regime.”

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s press conference on Saturday, Deyalsingh explained, “When you add 13,916 Johnson and Johnson vaccines, you get 55,845 but if divided by 19 and you get an average of 2,939 per day, roughly 3,000 per day.”

Deyalsingh said 564,703 persons could be considered to be fully vaccinated either on completion of two-dose regime or one shot and done regime which was 40.35% of the population.”

He said 29,797persons took the J&J vaccine.

The said that outreach vaccination programmes were welcomed by persons in the targeted areas.

Deyalsingh said, “We still have in this twin island state of 1.36 million people approximately 400,000 people who could be vaccinated in that target going to 960,000. In this context, we are still away from we thought we would have been when we were arm stronged by the availability of vaccines.”

Dr Rowley added, “There were still half million doses of vaccines available, some of it by virtue of expiration is becoming problematic. We also have a little extension on the AstraZeneca, the Sinopharn has a long window on its expiry but there has been a great uptick on the Pfizer vaccine.”
