A UNITED National Congress (UNC) local government councillor and her husband were found dead on Sunday.
Reports are that the bodies of councillor Romona Victor and her husband Rodney Ramsumair were discovered at their Siparia home just after 4 pm by a relative who went to visit the couple.
Victor was the representative for Siparia East/ San Francique South.
Siparia Mayor Doodnath Mayrhoo posted condolences on his Facebook page.
He wrote, “Today, we pause to honour the life and legacy of councillor Romona Victor for Siparia East/ San Francique South, a truly dedicated and hardworking servant of the Siparia Borough Corporation.
“Her unwavering commitment to her community, her passion for service, and her tireless efforts to uplift others will forever be remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and service that continues to inspire us all.
“On behalf of the Siparia Borough Corporation, members of staff, and colleagues, we extend our deepest condolences to the Victor family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
His post was also shared by the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation who also extended condolences.
Reports stated that the couple were having martial issues.
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen also expressed words of comfort.

She wrote on her social media page on Sunday night, “It is with great sadness we received the news of the passing of our beloved and dedicated sister, UNC Councillor Ramona Victor, local government representative for Siparia East/ San Francique South in the Siparia Borough Corporation. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
Investigations are continuing into the deaths.
