THE Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standard’s Tyre Inspection Unit will now be operating out of the Vehicle Management Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago’s (VMCOTT) south facility.
This follows the planned discontinuation of operations at the north facility, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has said.
The decision is in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism.
“This will guarantee that motorists retain access to convenient and reliable tyre inspection services, which are vital for road safety and regulatory compliance,” the ministry stated on Friday.
The TTBS Tyre Inspection Unit, which operates out of a rented space at the Laventille compound of the Vehicle Management Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (VMCOTT), had issued a public notice this week advising of its closure.
The notice came after Transport Minister Eli Zakour disclosed at a post Cabinet media briefing on Thursday that the TTBS was in arrears amounting to $216,000 and was set to close. However, he said the unit would remain open.
VMCOTT’s south facility is located at Union Hall, Cross Crossing, San Fernando.
