IN response to the growing number of online scams and incidents stemming from Facebook Marketplace meet-ups, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is taking proactive measures to ensure public safety. From December 5 to 24, the St Joseph Police Youth Club will serve as a designated ‘Safe Online Trade Zone.’
Managed by the North Central Community Oriented Policing Section, this initiative will be operational Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm The TTPS aims to provide a secure environment for individuals conducting online transactions, significantly reducing the risks associated with fraud and criminal activity.
“This secure space is designed to facilitate safe online trades and transactions,” the TTPS stated, emphasizing that officers will only intervene if a criminal offence is reported or observed. The initiative seeks to maintain a neutral and secure atmosphere for all participants.
Located at the corner of Abercromby and Market Street in St Joseph, the Safe Online Trade Zone is expected to foster peace of mind for community members engaging in online commerce during the festive season.
