A major investment agreement has been signed between Trinidad and Tobago and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), establishing a framework to support and protect new investments between the two countries.

The Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment was signed on Tuesday by Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers and the UAE’s Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

The agreement was signed at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

The ministry said the agreement provides the necessary framework to support and protect new investments between Trinidad and Tobago and the UAE.

“It enables investors from both countries to engage in investment activities with confidence, as it guides expected investor behaviour and ensures the rights of investors and states are protected,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that it provides protections including fair and equitable treatment and safeguards against expropriation, and establishes mechanisms for resolving investment disputes.

The ministry noted that the signing complements the government’s efforts to advance the country’s foreign policy and economic interests. It said the agreement follows a meeting between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
