T&T Parliamentarians in Turks and Caicos

MINISTER of Social Development and Family Services Donna Cox is in the Turks and Caicos Islands attending the 45th Annual Conference of the Caribbean, Americas and the Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The conference began on Monday and will continue to July 27.

This year’s conference is being held under the theme Building a Resilient Region in the Face of Global Challenges.

A press release from the ministry stated that on Monday, attendees engaged in fruitful discussions on food security and biodiversity. 

“This topic was of particular interest for the ministry due to its steadfast commitment in promoting sustainability,” the release stated.

The ministry stated that it was agreed that collaborative efforts will play a vital role in advancing the development of the region, as Government Officials from across the Caribbean region shared their opinions, experiences, leading to the exchange of knowledge and ideas. 

Preparing for natural disasters was also a major focus and the importance of managing crises and emergencies was also highlighted.

The ministry  is anticipating that practical solutions can be formulated to combat these issues facing the Caribbean region. 

Among others, also in attendance were Senate President Nigel de Freitas and Independent Senator Dr Varma Deyalsingh. 

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services stated it remained committed towards achieving sustainable human and social development and looked forward to further meetings aimed at enhancing the lives of vulnerable citizens.
