TRINIDAD and Tobago is now officially on the United Kingdom’s “red list” countries.
Travellers from these countries will have to pay for the required ten day hotel quarantine upon arrival to the UK, at a fixed cost of £1,750 per adult, the BBC reported on Thursday.
Six other countries were added to the list. These include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Costa Rica, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Sudan.
All changes come into effect on June 8 and all the UK countries, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland agreed to adopt the changes, the BBC added.
Travellers from those countries have to adhere to the strictest health and safety protocols in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
T&T positive cases and death rate had increased drastically last month triggering off a State of Emergency and further lockdown measures.
Earlier this week, it was reported that T&T will be added to the list especially in light of increasing cases of an Indian variant of the Covid-19 virus. It should be noted there was currently no case of this variant in T&T although there are reports of it being in Venezuela.
International reports stated that the Indian variant was now the dominant strain of the virus in the UK.
