THE messages of a sacrificial love and redemption that is the message of Easter is resonating strongly in Trinidad and Tobago, a country reeling from crime, economic and social instability.
For Christians, it is a time of deep reflection, renewal and rejoicing at the central event in the history of their salvation: the sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His victory over death says Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
In her Easter message to the nation, she said Easter was a time to remember with profound appreciation that Jesus gave His body and His blood, washing away the world’s faults and shortcomings.

Persad-Bissessar quoted the Bible verse found in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
She said, “Ultimately, Easter venerates the momentous point when good conquered evil, hope overcame despair, and life triumphed over death. This is a poignant reminder that no mistake or failing of the past can put humanity beyond the reach of God’s great and ever-gracious mercy.”
Persad-Bissessar added, “It is in these tumultuous, uncertain, despairing times, Easter’s promise of renewal, rebirth and redemption reinforces the fact that hope forever springs, and God’s infinite Grace will see us through the worst of adversities, once we are strong, brave and courageous enough to embrace it.”
The Opposition Leader encouraged persons to say a special prayer for Trinidad and Tobago’s redemption on this sacred weekend.
“May the inhumanity, despair and destabilisation that ensconce Trinidad and Tobago be washed away in the light of Jesus’s redeeming love and salvation. And may Christ’s living example of faith, goodness, humility, unconditional love, compassion, peace, tolerance, and forgiveness for all always inspire us to embrace and emulate Him, in our paths to salvation,” she said.
