PAPA Bois, Compé Anansi and Miss Esmie, famous characters in master folklore writer Al Ramsawak stories, will once again come alive today (Wednesday) when a tribute is made to the writer who passed away last month.
Ramsawak who wrote over 300 short stories including his famous Monkey Polo will be remembered through tributes and story telling in a virtual event.
He passed away at age 91 last month in San Fernando.
The event is being organised by She Right Collective and will take place from 6pm to 8pm.
Media personality Hansley Ajodha will present the main address and it will be moderated by cultural activist Amanda McIntyre.
The event entitled Memoriam will feature tributes from local and international writers, performers and cultural advocates including Dr Jean Antoine-Dunne, Lisa Allen-Agostini, Louris Martin Lee Sing.
They will also offer readings from his work and focus will be placed on contemporary folklore as well as his inter-generational influence.
Honoured guest appearances would be his characters that added life to traditional myths and mystical creatures.
Ramsawak was born and raised in Sangre Grande and but moved around a bit through Siparia and Princes Town before settling in Rousillac.
In 2004, he was awarded the President’s Humming Bird Silver Medal Award for Folklore/Culture.
