A LIGHT plane being used for pilot training crashed near the Piarco International Airport today (Tuesday).
This was confirmed by the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
The incident occurred at around 9.48am.
In a statement issued, the authority stated the flight training aircraft, registration number 9YTJU, experienced difficulty while attempting to land at runway 10.
It made an emergency landing just Northwest of the Piarco International Airport.
The Trinidad and Tobago Fire service, Global Medical Response of Trinidad and Tobago (GMRTT), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Authority immediately responded.
Two persons were taken from the aircraft, the instructor and a student pilot. They were transported to the Arima Medical Facility and are receiving medical attention.
The authority stated, “We wish to advise the public that there were no casualties. Other flights have not been impacted by this event and operations continue as normal at the Piarco International Airport.”
