Tobago Under Storm Watch

TOBAGO has been placed under a storm watch.

This is due to the passing of Tropical Storm Beryl near the Windward Islands.

The warning took effect from 10.11 am on Saturday and expected to end at 12 noon on Monday.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) stated, “A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm force winds (63-118 km/h) are possible within 48 hours.”

TTMS stated, “At 10am Tropical Storm Beryl was centred near located 9.9N 47.1W, about 1450 km east of Tobago. 

“Currently, there is a low to medium chance (30-40%) of tropical storm force winds affecting Tobago, as Beryl approaches the southern Windwards.Sea conditions are also likely to become occasionally rough.”

Officials have advised residents of Tobago to prepare for the possibility of tropical storm conditions, secure loose outdoor objects and livestock. All marine interests should exercise extra caution during this period and  continue to monitor official news sources and weather updates from www.metoffice.gov.tt

The Met Office said the public will be updated at 5pm or earlier if necessary.
