BOTH islands of Trinidad and Tobago are under Orange Alert.
Tobago is under a Tropical Storm Warning.
This as Tropical Storm Gonzalo is expected to move across the southern Windward Islands Saturday afternoon or evening and over the eastern Caribbean Sea on Sunday.
It was moving at 28 kilometres per hour on Friday night.
Orange Alert means there is a high risk to livelihoods, public safety and property.
Trinidad’s Orange Level Alert is effect from 11 am to 8pm on Saturday.
Tobago’s Orange Level Alert is effect from 8am to 8pm on Saturday.
The Tropical Storm Watch for Tobago has been upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning at 5 pm Friday.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) stated that in Trinidad there was a 70% chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms during this period.
It warns about the likelihood of flash flooding and landslides.
Winds are expected to be in excess of 65 kilometres per hour.
In Tobago tropical storm conditions are expected to affect the island with winds in excess of 85 kmph.
The Met Office stated that people should also stock up on food, water and medicine for at least seven days and should secure loose outdoor objects.
It also advised to pre-position sandbags in flooding areas and to monitor news sources.
