A 59-year-old Tobago man charged with rape, burglary and breach of a protection order has been granted $185,000 bail with surety.
The suspect appeared before Magistrate Erica Baptiste at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court virtually on Thursday.
Bail was set at $175,000 for rape and burglary charges, while bail for breach of protection order was $10,000.
This according to a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) release on Saturday.
Police reported on April 1, a man broke into a woman’s home and then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
WPC Leacock of the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a man who was charged with rape and burglary on Wednesday.
However, the third charge stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 4 where the suspect breached a protection order when he allegedly began using threatening and obscene language against the woman.
WPC Kerr of the Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation and the man was also charged on April 6 for this oiffence.
Investigations were supervised by acting Supt Claire Guy- Alleyne, acting ASP Bridglal and acting Insp Miller of the Gender-Based Violence Unit.
The suspect is expected to reappear at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on May 5.
