T20 legend Dwayne Bravo was given a guard of honour when he entered the Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday evening as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) took on the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
All TKR players wore the number 47 with “Thank You DJ” inscribed at the bottom of their t-shirts in place of their names. Bravo remained with the name “Champion” with his number 47 on his jersey.
Bravo announced his retirement in a social media post on August 31, stating that the 2024 CPL would be his last professional tournament.
He retired from the Indian Premier League ahead of the 2023 season after being part of four-title-winning campaigns with Chennai Super Kings.
Before this match, the all-rounder is the leading wicket-taker in T20 with 630 scalps in 578 matches. He has 6,970 runs to his name.
Bravo has been part of five championship winning squads at the CPL claiming the title in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 making him the most successful player in the tournament’s history. He is also the league’s leading wicket taker having claimed 128 victims across his illustrious CPL career.
Bravo’s last season will be with his home franchise, TKR with whom he has won four titles. His only other game this season was against the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, the team he led to their maiden CPL title in 2021.
