THE Trinidad Knight Riders will receive the Chaconia Gold Medal, the country’s second-highest medal, at the Republic Day National Awards Ceremony on Wednesday.
Additionally, TKR Captain Nicholas Pooran and CPL Player of the Tournament Keron Pollard will become sports ambassadors for Trinidad and Tobago.
This was announced on Tuesday by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, where a recognition ceremony was held for the TKR and World Athletic Championship medallists Keshorn Walcott and Jereem Richards.

Persad-Bissessar, who admitted to not being a big cricket fan, found herself watching the CPL games for the TKR, said, “So how do we honour you? Cabinet discussions earlier today many things came forward.”
“We proposed that you be given the Chaconia Gold Medal of Trinidad and Tobago, tomorrow at our Republic Day Awards ceremony,” she announced.
Persad-Bissessar said the cabinet had also chosen to appoint Pooran and Pollard as T&T sports ambassadors.
Addressing the team she said, “Again we would want to ask you all, both the players and the backup teams, to ask you all to help us mentor the youth.”
Thanking the Prime Minister, Pooran said, “Thank you on behalf of the TKR family, we really do appreciate the government supporting us. This goes a long way not only for us but for our families and the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
On behalf of the TKR, Bravo gifted the Prime Minister a TKR team shirt, while Pooran gave her a CPL medal.
