Ali, former president of the ASJA board, passed away on Tuesday.
The Covid-19 vaccination drive is taking place at Centre Pointe Mall in Chaguanas that is owned by the Ali family.
The site was the first of several to be used as a mass vaccination site managed by the private sector, with vaccines being provided by the Ministry of Health.
The Supermarket Association of Trinidad and Tobago (SATT) is spearheading the mass vaccination site along with the Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago (DATT).
More than 20,000 persons have already been vaccinated at that site alone.
SATT’s President Rajiv Diptee told AZPNews.com, “The unbearable pain of loss from Covid-19 at a time when vaccine hesitancy and anti vax movements are stirring debate is unfortunate. The poignant loss of one of our leaders and cherished loved ones brings home to bear that we must all do our part to be vaccinated and encourage such. Our thoughts, prayers and wishes are with the family of Centre Pointe Mall.
One of SATT’s directors, Shamshad Ali, Yacoob Ali’s son has been one of the driving forces at the site.
