TIKTOK personality Alex Cassidy has apologised to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for not referring to her as Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar in a recent video.
In a post to his TikTok account on Thursday he said, “I just want to make a humble apology for my last video for not addressing Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar. Honestly, I did not mean to cause any disrespect, I didn’t say the full title, it’s something we are not as used to in the UK. It was a bit naive of me, but like I say humble, humble apologies”
The United Kingdom (UK) based social media personality came under fire this week from Minister in the Ministry of Housing Anil Roberts, for referring to the PM as “Kamla.”
Cassidy appeared in a TikTok video along with Trinidad born Darrel Arjoon’s viral video offering the Prime Minister refurbished laptops for the Ministry of Education’s laptop programme.
Arjoon is the chairman of the Reuse Tech Group, an IT asset management business located in London, England.
The pair frequently referred to the PM as Kamla, which drew the ire of Roberts. In a video response to Cassidy and Arjoon, Robert’s said, “And to you English Boy, ketch yuh self, it’s Honourable Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar.”
Cassidy subsequently removed the video from his TikTok account.
In his apology, Cassidy, who has made a name for himself for his travel videos throughout the Caribbean said, “Trinidad and Tobago has a special place and deep place in my heart, and I only want the best for the country, and I will continue to keep promoting Trinidad and Tobago and my love for Trinidad and Tobago. Humble apologies on my part.”
He ended his video saying, “God bless Trinidad and Tobago, one love.”
While Roberts may not have taken kindly to Cassidy’s casual use of the PM’s name, Cassidy’s supporters came out in force to defend him and show appreciation for highlighting Trinidad and Tobago to the world.
User named @Account Not Found said, “Fact is, everyone knows you meant no disrespect. But at least you apologised so hopefully they cut you some slack now. But you are doing a hundred times more promoting T&T (sic) than many of them.”
@Debbie badre, chimed in saying, “Thank you for supporting my little island of Trinidad and Tobago. You’re doing such a great job, and the people know exactly what a beautiful island it is again thank you one love.”
@andy075 said, “apologies accepted sending love. I believe the entire Trinidad and Tobago consider you as part of us Trinidad and Tobago.”
