A 57-year-old PH taxi driver was ordered to pay $15,000 to a 14-year-old girl after pleading guilty to sexually touching her.
Yamandeo Harrypersad, of Williamsville, was also fined $5,000 after appearing before Princes Town Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine on Thursday.
He was arrested and charged by PC Romilly, of the South-Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU), following a police report on March 22, 2021, in which a 14-year-old told police that she was sexually touched by a man.
Police said that the victim was in a taxi driven by Harrypersad with her father. Her father stepped out of the vehicle and his absence, Harrypersad turned around and placed his hand on her vagina.
Harryperad was charged with one count of sexual touching of a child.
The investigation was spearheaded by Superintendent of Police Claire Guy-Alleyne and acting Insp Khan.
