A police officer died from a gunshot wound he sustained outside his home in Edinburgh 500 on Friday evening.
Special Reserve Police officer Julien Emmanuel, 56, was shot in the chest and died at hospital after an altercation outside his home around 6pm.
Reports indicated that Emmanuel was fighting with a man from his neighbourhood when the man grabbed his firearm and shot him.
The firearm when off during the struggle, investigators were told.
Emmanuel died at the Chaguanas District Facility.
Officers of Chaguanas CID, Central Division Task Force and Homicide Region III responded.
A man has surrendered to Central Division police in connection with the incident.
Police said that Emmanuel had retired from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service but recently returned to duty. He was an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
