‘Spanish’ Extorting ‘Spanish’ for Drugs

THREE individuals have been arrested following an investigation into alleged extortion activities linked to the Anti-Extortion Unit.

The operation, which resulted in the seizure of narcotics, took place in the Trincity district on Monday.

The intelligence-led operation was initiated after reports emerged of armed Spanish-speaking individuals extorting fellow Spanish-speaking nationals for drugs and valuables in the Arouca and St Joseph districts.

These individuals were reportedly using a blue Hyundai Accent to carry out their activities.

Around 9.15 pm, officers intercepted the vehicle on Trincity Central Road North.

A subsequent search uncovered a quantity of cocaine packaged in plastic, leading to the arrest of the vehicle’s three occupants.

Those arrested include a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, both from St James, along with a 19-year-old from Diego Martin.

The TTPS has confirmed that investigations into the extortion incidents are ongoing. They are encouraging the public to report any instances of extortion by contacting the Anti-Extortion Unit hotline at 797-3150.
