HEAD of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Inspector of Police Mark Hernandez has been charged for misbehaviour in public office.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that he was charged pursuant to the Police Service Act, Chapter 15:01, for misbehaviour in public office by encouraging the unlawful assault by beating of David Ottley Jr, thereby occasioning him to sustain actual bodily hard contrary to common law.
Hernandez was charged following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Monday.
He was arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau, Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2, and Northern Division Criminal Investigations Unit, on April 14. Hernandez was charged by acting Cpl Marcano of the Maloney Police Station.
He was in custody for five days for questioning by the Professional Standards Bureau in relation to the deaths of Joel Balcon and Andrew Morris who were suspects in the kidnapping and murder of Arima Court clerk Andrea Bharatt.
The charge was laid at the Maloney Police Station and was granted $30,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace.
