PARENTS recognise the efforts of people who carried their children through floodwaters to sit the Caribbean Advance Proficiency Exams (CAPE) in June.
After getting a call,
, Eddie Surjan and Ramnarine Rajaram used their trucks to get parents to write exams on June 12, 13 and 14 as heavy rains caused flooding in Barrackpore and environs including Penal and Debe.
Recently, the Barrackpore East Secondary School recognised these men and other good Samaritans who helped to get the stranded children to their exams.
Maharaj said it was a privilege for them to do what they did as it was a way of life for them to give service to others.
The men decided to offer to transport the children after it was uncertain whether they would have been allowed to have make-up exams even though they were marooned in their houses because of floods.
They took children from the Barrackpore area to site exams at Iere High School, Parvati Girls’ Hindu College and Barrackpore East and West Secondary Schools.
