ONE suspect is now in police custody after he and others robbed a Siparia family who put their car up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
According to police reports, around 1pm on Tuesday a family from Siparia left their home to purchase a vehicle from a seller on Facebook Marketplace.
Following the directions provided by the seller, they went to Mission Road Extension, San Juan. When they arrived, an armed assailant approached their vehicle and opened fire.
They drove off in an attempt to flee the attack, but soon realised that a female passenger had been shot in the stomach. She was taken to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Officers of the North Eastern Division mounted a quick response to a report of a shooting in the San Juan area, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated on Wednesday.
The TTPS responded under the supervision of Senior Superintendent Edwards and Superintendent Birch who dispacthed officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force, CID, and Gang Investigation Unit.
One suspect was arrested and was found in possession of an AR-15 rifle and ammunition.
ASP Callender and Insp Ramsingh coordinate the exercise, which was conducted by Sgt Martin, Sgt. Ramkissoon, Cpl Daniel, and PCs Ali, McKnight, Taylor, Malchan, and Noel.
The investigation remains ongoing, with efforts being made to apprehend any additional suspects involved in the incident.
This incident follows another one on Monday when two people went to a gas station on Charlotte street to sell an iphone valued at $7,500 and another phone. The man posing as the buyer snatched the phones and ran away. He was apprehended by the police in East Dry River.
