TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Jereem Richards stormed into the silver spot in the men’s 400 metres at the World Athletics Championships on Thursday, lowering his own national record to 43.72 seconds.

Running from lane two on a wet track at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan, the 31-year-old from Point Fortin delivered to improve on the 43.78 he set at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

That mark had left him a heartbreaking fourth in last year’s Olympic final; this time, he comfortably made the podium and secured Trinidad and Tobago’s second medal of the evening session. Keshorn Walcott took the gold in the Men’s Javelin.

Botswana’s Busang Collen Kebinatshipi captured gold in a personal best and world-leading 43.53, validating the world-leading 43.61 he posted in the semifinals. His compatriot Bayapo Ndori took bronze in a season’s best 44.20.
