The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) has successfully prosecuted a case against a shipping agent who violated the Harbours Act.
According to a release on Monday from the MOWT, the shipping agent pleaded guilty to the charge of permitting a vessel to depart without proper clearance from the Harbour Master, a violation of Section 29 of the Act.
The release stated, “The outcome of this case demonstrates the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. By holding individuals and entities accountable for their actions, the MOWT continues to reinforce the integrity of our Maritime borders.”
It stated, “The Ministry of Works and Transport acknowledges the pivotal role played by the Cabinet in approving two Assistant Harbour Controllers to strengthen the office of the Harbour Master. This strategic reinforcement enables enhanced oversight of vessel arrivals and departures, effectively closing gaps in our border security infrastructure. Through our work, we will continue to safeguard the country’s maritime security.”
