THE Senate has chosen its members to form its parliamentary committees.
The names of selected persons to the various joint select committees comprising members from both the Senate and the House of Representatives were listed out by Leader of Government Business Darrell Allahar.
He named the individuals on the Senate’s side during a sitting on Tuesday to discuss the extension of the SoE, approval of which was granted in the Lower House on Monday.
The Senate members comprise government, opposition and independent senators. An equal number for the committees is to come from the House of Representatives.
Government Senator Anil Roberts was named to be part of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Roberts along with government minister Dominic Smith, opposition senator Vishnu Dhanpaul and independent senator Deoroop Teemal will join with four members from the House of Representatives to form the PAC.
According to the Parliament website, the PAC shall have the duty of considering and reporting to the House on appropriation accounts of moneys expended out of sums granted by Parliament to meet the public expenditure.
The members for the Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee are Attorney General John Jeremie, Labour Minister Leroy Baptiste, Dhanpaul again and independent senator Francis Lewis.
The Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee have the duty of considering and reporting to the House on the audited accounts, balance sheets and other financial statements of all enterprises that are owned or controlled by, or on behalf of the State; and the Auditor General’s report on any such accounts, balance sheets and other financial statements.
For the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, Allahar named again Baptiste, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training Prof Prakash Persad, government senator David Nakhid, opposition senator Janelle John-Bates and independent senator Dr Marlene Attz.
The persons listed to join the Joint Select Committee for Parliamentary Broadcasting were: Senate President Wade Mark, government senator Brian Baig, opposition senator Foster Cummings and again Lewis.
The Senate’s pick for JSC on Government Assurance: Mark, government minister Phillip Alexander, John-Bates and independent senator Alicia Latite-Ettienne.
· Finance and Legal Affairs: Baptiste, Trade Minister Satyakama Maharaj, Dhanpaul and Dr Attz
· Land and Physical Infrastructure: Alexander, Planning Minister Dr Kennedy Swaratsingh, Cummings and Teemal
· Social Services and Public Administration: Nakhid, Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram, Roberts-Radgman and independent senator Dr Desirée Murray.
· Local Authorities, Service Commissions and Statutory Authorities including the Tobago House of Assembly: Prof Persad, Parliamentary Secretary Dr Natalie Chaitan-Maharaj, opposition senator Faris Al-Rawi and independent senator Candice Jones-Simmons.
· State Enterprises: Roberts, Jeremie, Cummings and independent senator Anthony Vieira
· National Security: Allahar, Transport Minister Eli Zakour, John-Bates and independent senator Courtney Mc Nish.
· Energy Affairs: Swaratsingh, Satyakama Maharaj, Al-Rawi and independent senator Michael Simon Victor De La Bastide.
· Foreign Affairs: Swaratsingh, Dr Chaitan-Maharaj, opposition senator Dr Amery Browne and Lewis.
· Human Rights, Equality and Diversity: Alexander, Smith, Roberts-Radgman and Lalite-Ettiene.
