FORMER Attorney General Russell Martineau, SC, is one of three citizens who have been awarded the country’s highest distinction – the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT).
Also receiving the ORTT are immediate past president of the National Gas Company (NGC) Mark Loquan and computer science lecturer at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Professor Patrick Hosein.
Martineau was honoured by the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago last year for being 50 years at the Bar. His career has been littered with several high-profile and landmark cases.
Loquan served as president of NGC for eight years and has worked in the energy industry for 40 years. In February he was diagnosed with brain cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
In 2021, Professor Hosein, through The Cropper Foundation was awarded a grant from the National Geographic Society to lead the implementation of a project investigating practical applications of artificial intelligence models for supporting climate-smart-agriculture in the Caribbean, as a 2021 National Geographic Explorer.
Professor Hosein is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he obtained five degrees including a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
He has published extensively with more than 100 refereed journal and conference publications. He holds 40 granted and 42 pending patents in the areas of telecommunications and wireless technologies.
The National Awards presentation will take place at President’s House from 6 pm on Republic Day.
Martineau who is out of the country will not be at today’s ceremony. Also unable to attend are Chaconia Medal (silver) awardee Nazir Khan for the sphere of business and former chief personnel officer Stephanie Lewis who has been conferred with the Public Service Medal of Merit Gold.
