The State of Emergency (SoE) declared on Monday is long overdue.
This was the opinion of several citizens who were at the time of the SoE announcement relaxing at Maracas Bay.
Many of them were already aware of the press conference and tuned in to it via their cellular phones.
While some opinions differed, they all agreed that they were pleased that no curfew was implemented.
Anesa Sankar, 40, a Maracas vendor said it was not a major impact on their livelihood which was good.
“I hope the police don’t take advantage of it. Hopefully everything will pass smoothly. But police have to do what they need to do. Crime is really overbearing,” she said.
Sito, 25, a tradesman said, “It is what it is. They have to do what they must do to protect the citizens.”
A couple from Charlieville, Jairam and Malti Ramnarine shared their opinions.
They both agreed that the SoE was needed.
Malti Ramnarine said, “It is sad that we have to resort to this. It may help. In these times, anything might help.”
She added, “The State of Emergency is long overdue.”
From Debe, teacher Lilly Khan told AZP News, “I think it is a good thing because of the rate of crime this year. We have over 600 murders. I think it is necessary and a stepping stone to improving the crime situation in the country.”
Of all the people AZP News spoke with only one 24-year-old man was unaware of the announcement and also said he was not bothered too much by it.
