School Supplies, Book Grants to be Issued by Sept. 5

All School Supplies and Book Grants are expected to be issued to qualified persons, by September 5.
The new school term is scheduled to open on September 8.
The Ministry of Education on Monday said that the issuance of the grants were being done on a phased basis and to date,  5,248 payments have been made.
The remaining 14,752 payments, a total of 20,000, will be issued by the September 5 date.

The ministry stated in a press release, “The public is reminded that priority consideration for the School Supplies and Book Grant will be given to applicants in the following categories: individuals receiving public assistance, unemployed persons, persons with disabilities, and low-income households.”
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, “This initiative reflects our government’s commitment to equity and educational opportunity for every child. The Ministry of Education has worked tirelessly to ensure that this support reaches those who need it most.
“By easing the financial burden on families, the School Supplies and Book Grant equips students with the tools they need to learn, grow, and achieve their very best.”
Notifications will be sent directly via email and beneficiaries are encouraged to regularly monitor their email accounts for payment confirmations.

Payments continue to be forwarded to the bank account number provided by applicants who have successfully qualified for the grant.
A valid form of identification, i.e. national identification card, driver’s permit, or passport,  will be required for collection.
 Cheques can be cashed at any Education District Revenue Office.
 The ministry thanked all applicants for their patience and cooperation.
“This initiative reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to providing equitable access to educational resources for students,” the release stated.
