ONE hundred Venezuelans in Trinidad and Tobago could not have been repatriated.
This was because the aircraft that would have been sent for them was sanctioned by the United States Government.
The Ministry of National Security revealed this in a news release on Thursday.
It stated that within the past week, the Venezuelan Government made a request to facilitate the provision of a repatriation flight from Trinidad to Venezuela.
The National Security Ministry stated that the request was made via the normal diplomatic channels to the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs.
The release stated that preliminary approval for this repatriation exercise was granted as it was seen as a humanitarian effort by the Government of Venezuela.
All arrangements were made by Venezuela, the release stated.
It added, “When the details were provided of the aircraft that the Venezuelan Government was proposing to use to repatriate approximately one hundred (100) Venezuelan nationals, it was discovered that the aircraft was amongst those sanctioned by the United States of America.
“Unfortunately in those circumstances, the Ministry of National Security could not grant approval for the aircraft to come to Trinidad and Tobago.”
The Ministry of National Security has reached out to the United States of America Embassy in Port-of-Spain to seek guidance and will work with the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, with respect to the possibility of a future repatriation exercise by the Venezuelan Government.

Aeronave Sancionada: No Habrá Repatriación de 100 Venezolanos
Cien Venezolanos en Trinidad y Tobago no habían podido ser repatriados.
Esto se debió a que la aeronave que se les habría enviado fue sancionada por el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos.
El Ministerio de Seguridad Nacional reveló esto en un comunicado de prensa el Jueves.
Indicó que durante la semana pasada, el Gobierno Venezolano realizó una solicitud para facilitar la provisión de un vuelo de repatriación de Trinidad a Venezuela.
El Ministerio de Seguridad Nacional indicó que la solicitud se hizo por los canales diplomáticos habituales al Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Asuntos Caricom.
El comunicado indicó que se otorgó la aprobación preliminar para este ejercicio de repatriación, ya que fue visto como un esfuerzo humanitario por parte del Gobierno de Venezuela.
Todos los arreglos fueron hechos por Venezuela, según el comunicado.
Agregó: “Cuando se dieron los detalles de la aeronave que el Gobierno Venezolano se proponía utilizar para repatriar aproximadamente a cien (100) ciudadanos Venezolanos, se descubrió que la aeronave estaba entre las sancionadas por los Estados Unidos de América.
“Desafortunadamente, en esas circunstancias, el Ministerio de Seguridad Nacional no pudo otorgar la aprobación para que la aeronave llegara a Trinidad y Tobago”.
El Ministerio de Seguridad Nacional se ha comunicado con la Embajada de los Estados Unidos de América en Puerto España para buscar orientación y trabajará con el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Asuntos Caricom, con respecto a la posibilidad de un futuro ejercicio de repatriación por parte del Gobierno Venezolano.
