SALVATION must replace the culture of oppression in Trinidad and Tobago.
So said political leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party Phillip Edward Alexander in his Easter message for 2023.
He said, “In a nation destroyed by the corruption and greed of organised white-collar crime the salvation we seek can only come if we learn to be like Christ, to stand against all wrongdoing even at our own expense, and through that sacrifice arrive at a resurrection from the grave of despair and ruin we as a nation have been consigned to.”
Alexander said, “Easter symbolises the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness, life over death.
“Jesus Christ did not just die for all of mankind but willingly suffered and took on human pain to make the point, that if He could overcome, we could overcome. Jesus was the living embodiment of the Word of God sent to break the chains of bondage to dogma.”
Alexander said Christ challenged the established order and called for honesty and decency in all things and broke bread with outcasts and stood among the poor to eschew the trappings of earthly success.
He said, “His greatest sermons he kept for the innocent and the children. If we in Trinidad & Tobago are to take any lessons from Easter it is to turn away from wrongdoing, to accept forgiveness and sin no more.
“I wish nothing but the brightest Easter for my country, where salvation and rejuvenation could replace the culture of oppression and avarice that has dogged us from day one.”
