TRINIDAD and Tobago is being praised by the US Government for being an ally in its fight against drugs and narcotics.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We are getting incredible international co-operation. Countries just in the last week, Ecuador, Guyana, Trinidad, today Argentina, all joining us trying to be helpful and we are having record seizures.”
He was giving remarks on the occasion of Labour Day while sitting next to President Donald Trump.
Rubio said for the first time in American modern era, the nation was on offence dealing with “organised cartels that are pumping poison, killer poison into our cities.”
He added that everything the US government did in foreign policy was for the protection, provision and strength of American citizens.
Over the weekend, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar pledged commitment to working with the US as it tackles growing tensions with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
And last week, Trinidad and Tobago was mentioned by Vice President JD Vance as he compared the crime rate in the US capital city of Washington to that of Trinidad and Tobago’s.
