PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley visited the Mento platform at the TOFCO fabrication yard, witnessing the final stages of its construction on Wednesday.
The platform is set for sail away in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone for the joint venture between EOG Resources Trinidad Limited and bpTT.
The Mento project, a 50/50 collaboration with EOG as the operator, involves intricate logistics. The jacket, or base, will soon be loaded onto a barge, followed by the topsides, before sailing to the east coast of Trinidad for installation. This will kick-start the commissioning activities at the final site.
Dr Rowley had also toured TOCFO in March.
A release from bpTT stated that during the tour, Dr Rowley was joined by key figures including George Vieira, Managing Director of EOG, David Campbell, president of bpTT, and Javed Mohammed, General Manager of TOFCO. Also present were Energy Minister Stuart Young, Labour Minister Stephen McClashie, MP Kennedy Richards, and Agriculture Minister Kazim Hosein.
David Campbell of bpTT expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “Mento is an excellent example of the power of collaboration to bring much-needed gas to market.” He also highlighted the ongoing partnership with EOG, looking forward to their next project, Coconut.
George Vieira of EOG praised the teamwork, saying, “We are pleased with the partnership between EOG and bpTT in developing oil and gas resources. We thank TOFCO and our local contractors for their work on the Mento platform.”
The Mento platform, a 12-slot manned facility, is expected to deliver first gas in 2025, with over half of its construction workforce hailing from La Brea and surrounding areas.
The Mento project follows previous successful ventures by the bpTT and EOG joint venture, including EMZ in 2011, Sercan in 2016, and Banyan in 2017. The partners are also gearing up for the Coconut gas development, promising continued collaboration in the region.
