PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley says he is going on vacation for about two weeks in Ireland with his wife Sharon and friends from Trinidad and Barbados.
He made the announcement at a post-cabinet news conference at Whitehall on Wednesday. He said he will spend the Easter weekend in Tobago before he heads out to vacation.
Dr Rowley said, “I expect that I would not be available to you for the next two weeks.”
He said, “I have just finished Cabinet (meeting) and I’m off to Tobago for the Easter and from Tobgao, I am off to Ireland from Trinidad and due back on the 14th (of April) I think.”
Dr Rowley said Minister of Finance Colm Imbert will act as prime minister in his absence.
He said he was going on vacation and not for medical reasons.
Dr Rowley said, “This is straight vacation. I am taking my wife with me.
“I’m going to Ireland, I will be in Ireland with a group of friends and I am taking my wife, as you know has just retired after a long period of working very hard while I’ve been out in the political arena, so I owe her that as part of the celebration for retirement and having her with me for the ten days in Ireland I will be out in the southwest part of Ireland and some friends.”
Asked who are his friends, he laughed, saying, “My normal friends, some from Barbados and Trinidad and elsewhere, this is a small group of us but I hope the weather is good so if you really want me to have a good time, pray for good weather.”
