OPPOSITION Senator Jearlean John slams Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for statements he made concerning his skin colour.
At the UNC’s Monday Night Forum, John quoted from a newspaper article about statements made by Dr Rowley at a PNM political meeting last Thursday in San Fernando.
She said, “UNC, you know elections close when Rowley remember he black.
“Anytime Rowley pull a race card, you know election close. UNC don’t fall for that one. Leave that man right there looking in the mirror.”
In her attempt to be politically correct, she said, “Rowley not black, he unwhite” generating much applause and laughter from her audience. Rowley has 99 problems and being black ent none.”
John said Rowley should instead be angry at national issues such as structural inequality, normalised stigma and everyday brutalisation and was not concerned about building up vulnerable communities.
“People don’t care if Rowley black as he claims, they just blue vex that he appears not to value their lives,” she said.
After the meeting, as part of Indian Arrival Day celebrations, Persad-Bissessar and her team along with Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed went to purchase doubles in the borough.
