PRIME MINISTER Dr Keith Rowley leaves today on a diplomatic visit to Barbados, where he will engage in discussions with high-ranking U.S. government officials.
The talks will primarily focus on the Bridgetown Initiative, a call for urgent reforms in the international financial architecture, a release form the Office of the Prime Minister stated.
Accompanying Dr Rowley is Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Amery Browne. Their discussions aim to address pressing global financial issues and seek collaborative solutions.
In Dr Rowley’s absence, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young will act as prime minister.
Speaking at Thursday’s Post-Cabinet Media Briefing, said this meeting was the result of an effort led by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley. He said he had been to Washington on more than one occasion, and the US delegation has been to the Caribbean.
He said, “We think we made some progress, but it’s crystallised in something called the Bridgetown Initiative, which we need to defend, grow and advance in the US authorities and to the international financial bodies. Therefore, we meet in Barbados.”
Dr Rowley is sexpected to return on Sunday.
