AFTER 45 years in public office, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says he’s not going up for election.
He made the announcement at a press conference in Tobago on Friday.
Dr Rowley has been the MP for Diego Martin West since 1991 and prime minister from 2015 to the present.
He said, “I will not again be offering myself to represent anyone either in Trinidad or Tobago. Forty-five years is a long time. And I would like, at this time, to say thank you appropriately along the way to all those who have supported my efforts and to have benefitted from, I hope I would have positively impacted this country somewhere, sometime.”
He said he continues to be the political leader of the People’s National Movement as screening for the two Toabgo seats is to be settled on Saturday.
Dr Rowley added, “Before the end of the legal limits of this term, I will resign this office and go off to my family.”
