JUSTICE of Appeal Ronnie Boodoosingh is the new Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago.
He was sworn in by acting President Wade Mark at the President’s House in St Ann’s on Wednesday.
This follows the retirement of former chief justice Ivor Archie, five years before he was due.
He demitted office on Wednesday after announcing his retirement during his address at the opening of the Law Term on September 16.
President Christine Kangaloo is on vacation, and Mark, as the acting head of State, has full powers under the law.
Mark acted under Section 102 of The Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago that states, “The Chief Justice shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.”
Boodoosingh, a Court of Appeal judge, also worked at the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and as a lecturer at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
