CRISTIANO Ronaldo’s removing two Coca Cola bottles from in front of him at a press conference on Monday has cost Coca Cola US$4 billion in market value, according to international media.
He has more than half a billion followers on social media.
Coca Cola is one of the sponsors of European Championships currently taking place across Europe. Ronaldo is the captain of defending champions Portugal. At the press conference, he said, “Agua,” meaning water in Portuguese and removed the two Coca Cola bottles and then held up a water bottle.
He made the gesture in a press conference before a game against Hungry when on Tuesday he scored a brace to become the most prolific scorer in the European Championships.
The company’s share prices fell leading to a $4 billion loss almost overnight. Coca Cola’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 costing, a 1.2% dip in value.
Ronaldo advised people to drink water.
