POWERGEN and the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) workers are not responsible for the nation’s power outage on Wednesday.

This according to President of the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) Ancel Roget at a virtual press conference on Thursday.

He was responding to claims of workers’ involvement in the islandwide power outage on Wednesday in response to the Government’s impending vaccine mandate policy for public servants.

Roget said, “Absolutely not, I say categorically that is not an issue, and or no involvement at all from the workers involved that has nothing to do with our workers.”

He commended workers for their efforts and restoration of power to the nation.

The workers of Trinidad and Tobago, the PowerGen and T&TEC are not in no way shape or form, have been involved in the past, present, yesterday’s activities were never involved.”

Roget said there was a power failure and a proper investigation will determine the cause of that failure.

He added, “No workers committed any acts, small, medium or large of sabotage. Those workers saved the country from plunging further chaos by restoring power.”

Roget called on the Government to cease and desist from continuing mandatory vaccination in the public service.

He said, “It will bring chaos, disorder. It will bring a lot of problems, both seen and unseen on to this country, but most specifically unto individuals in this country.

“We in the trade union movement are prepared to do whatever becomes necessary to ensure the rights of the individuals in this democratic Republic of Trinidad and Tobago are defended and protected.”
