PRESIDENT General of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) Ancel Roget strongly criticised the former People’s National Movement (PNM) administration during his address at the May Day 2025 celebration at Harris Promenade, San Fernando, on Thursday.
Roget accused former administrations of enriching themselves while abandoning the working class.
He said, “They filled their pockets and walked out, leaving workers empty-handed.”
Calling out former Prime Minister and Political leader of the PNM Dr Keith Rowley, Roget said, “On this May Day 2025, we say good riddance to you and your team.”
He also took aim at former prime minister Stuart Young, mockingly referring to him as “Stuart Little.”
Roget said, “He did absolutely nothing. The shortest Member of Parliament, the shortest prime minister in Parliament, good riddance to you.”
He added that the union played a role in their political downfall.
“We were happy, we were delighted that we had everything to do with your dismissal,” Roget said.
He further stated, “Never again would we subject ourselves to that level of injustice and modern-day slavery, enslaving workers in this country. And they are so delusional, up to now they blaming everybody.”
